James Whitfield is a Sydney-based forex and CFD analyst with over 11 years of experience in Australian financial markets. He began his career as a junior dealer at a boutique FX brokerage in Sydney’s CBD before transitioning to independent trading and financial content analysis in 2018.
At KolaTrading, James leads all forex and CFD broker reviews and comparisons. His testing methodology involves opening real funded accounts (A$500 deposited at each broker), recording live spreads across 30 trading days, measuring execution speed across 50+ market orders, and processing real AUD withdrawals to verify turnaround times.
James is particularly focused on helping Australian retail traders understand the practical difference between ECN and market maker brokers, and how ASIC’s leverage restrictions and negative balance protection rules affect everyday trading decisions.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of New South Wales and is a member of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA). When not reviewing brokers, he trades AUD/USD and ASX 200 CFDs on his personal account.
Every broker review James publishes on KolaTrading is based on the following live testing process:
A$500 deposited at each broker. No demo accounts used for spread or execution data.
EUR/USD, AUD/USD and GBP/USD spreads recorded across London, NY and Asian sessions.
50 market orders placed per broker from Sydney, AEST. Fill time recorded per order.
AUD bank transfer requested and number of business days to clear recorded.
Live chat contacted at business hours and late AEST. Response time and quality assessed.
AFS licence verified on ASIC Connect register before any broker appears on KolaTrading.
